White Water Paddlesports

Tees Barrage International White Water Centre is ideal for all kayaking and canoeing enthusiasts, from beginners to pros. Want to practice and develop your paddling skills? With a range of water conditions available all year round in any weather; we offer a safe and exciting environment for you to learn, improve and enjoy.

What’s there for kayakers and canoeists?

At Tees Barrage, our excellent facilities for kayaking and canoeing include a flat warm-up lake and a world class standard white water course. This means you can test your paddling technique on reliable conditions every time you visit us!

If you want to try canoeing or kayaking for the first time, we also offer Canoeing & Kayaking courses from beginner to three-star. Here, we give you a fully-qualified instructor. They’ll work with you to improve your skills, encourage your development and boost your confidence on the water.

Once you are of a 3 Star standard with a competent roll, you can explore the White Water Course and improve your skills or just meet up with some friends and have a fun session.

We have a fun, friendly and enthusiastic community of regular paddlers which just shows the quality of our site for paddlesports.

Once you’re done paddling, you can always grab food at Oasis Cafe Tees Barrage then take a walk through the nearby nature reserve to finish off the day.

Flat water lake

Our flatwater lake is used by people enrolled on the water course, warming-up before tackling the white water courses.

300-metre white water course (Jubilee Course)

The 300-metre course is designed for inflatable rafts, canoes and kayaks. So, there’s plenty of flexibility depending on your preference. Featuring turns, twists and several big drops, this course is ideal for thrill seekers and is a great way to put your paddling skills to the test! With an updated main channel and a new secondary channel, you get plenty of waves and holes for you to throw the best moves!

(To use our white water courses, you must have a three-star standard qualification and capable of rolling on white water).

100-metre short white water course (Diamond Course)

We also have a shorter white water course. This features the biggest artificial white water drop in the UK as well as many twists and turns along its 3.7-metre descent. A perfect setting for paddlers looking for an exhilarating experience they won’t forget!

What do I need to do to kayak and canoe at Tees Barrage?

All you need to do is complete our booking forms. These include ‘Paddler Medical Consent’ and ‘White Water Health & Safety and Risk Declaration’ forms that you need to fill out, too.

Simply download the documents, fill them in, and then either hand them to us when you arrive at reception or send them to us in advance. Please note: a parent or guardian must sign both forms if you’re under 18.
